The London-based band formed in 2025, though the project has long been an ambition of all members.

​

In 2021, multi-instrumentalist Cam Forrester released a home-made documentary, ‘Foundation Velvet: The Drumming Of Maureen ‘Moe’ Tucker’ on YouTube, followed by a series of video tutorials demonstrating how to play songs by the Velvets.

After gradually building a strong following, Cam received many requests to form an authentic live tribute, and so the search for other musicians to help make it happen began.

Fellow multi-instrumentalist Kyle Hill replied to Cam’s advert in 2022 registering an interest, but the project was shelved until 2024, due to the pair having no luck finding a female drummer for the role of Maureen Tucker.

Guitarist Bobby Tamarali joined the project in late 2024, and finally Ella Wallace-Manning joined in early 2025, completing the lineup.

The band rehearsed throughout 2025, investing in vintage instruments, amplifiers, live sound & lighting equipment, and even hand-building discontinued items in order to accurately reconstruct the sound and environment of a Velvet Underground concert of for a modern audience.

 

Andy Warhol’s multimedia vision and original EPI lighting designer Danny Williams’ electrical innovations were influential to the development of psychedelic light shows, and later disco, rave, and contemporary stage lighting.

Another VU’s light shows are inspired by their techniques; manually-controlled xenon strobe lamps operated in rhythm with the music, hand-operated liquid light shows producing psychedelic convection current visuals, film projections, and orbiting polka dot reflections created by a hand-built reproduction of Warhol’s antique mirror ball.

 

The result is an explosion of electrifying sound and kaleidoscopic imagery, just like the original (and now legendary) Exploding Plastic Inevitable.
